Arsene Wenger has asserted that England striker
Danny Welbeck is not overlooked by the club. The arsenal manager was asked in
his press briefing if the England striker is being overlooked, and his efforts
not well appreciated following the fact that people have been raving on and on
about Tottenham striker Harry Kane despite Danny Welbeck snatching 6 goals in 5
matches, and getting man of the match against Lithuania.
Wenger has however
stated that he knows the quality inherent in the player and does not overlook
him personally. He said “Maybe, but I don’t overlook him personally because he
played many games for us, and i think he’s an important player who contributes
a lot, not only as you said scores goals, but as well contributes a lot to the
team work. He’s a team player and I believe technically, he has improved a lot.
When you look at him now, I believe technically, he’s much more mature, more
composed in front of goal, the quality of his runs is getting better and he has
huge attributes.”
He also went on to back
Danny Welbeck of keeping his place in the England squad, and not losing it to
lethal finisher Harry Kane. He went on to say “We are not there yet. I think
Harry Kane played one game, and it’s good for England to have many options and
to choose the best one. Welbeck until now has always been in the chosen best
ones and I don’t see how on Friday night Roy Hodgson could change his mind.”
