Arsene Wenger has given a response to those who feel
he will never be able to defeat Mourinho due to the fact that he hasn’t been
able to do so in his last 12 attempts.
Arsene Wenger in his
press conference was asked if he was closer to figuring out the reason why he
hasn’t been able to defeat Mourinho, he said “Look, I think we have not always
lost first of all in 12 attempts, we were a few times close to beat them, and
they had always strong teams as well. Having all said that, the result on
Sunday will be just down to the performance on the day. We are on a good run,
we have an opportunity at home to beat them and we want to take it.”
When asked if it was
going to require something different from his side tactically, Wenger said “What
it will require is basically Chelsea's strengths if you look at their numbers;
they have been very efficient on counter attacks, very efficient on set pieces
as well. So to nullify their strengths of course will be important.”
When asked if this was
his best chance of defeating Mourinho, Wenger replied “You know it’s not a
confrontation--it's a confrontation of 2 clubs, of 2 teams and I'm not a great
believer in history. I just think football is down to the fact that the
performance on the day will decide the game and the result, so let’s focus on
that.”
Hopefully this time, he
would be able to break this jinx because now more than ever, Arsenal need this
win. Earlier in the season, we broke the jinx against Manchester United in the
FA cup and hopefully, we can do the same to Chelsea on our home ground.
