Arsene Wenger has
dismissed claims that the opening day defeat is a blessing in disguise and
would spur the team to do well in the coming months.
A few seasons ago,
Arsenal lost the opening game against Aston Villa and eventually went on to go
on an excellent streak which lasted for quite some time and that saw the
gunners top the premier league table for more than half of the season. When
asked by a reporter if another defeat on an opening day could be what the team
needed to go on a very good run, Wenger dismissed those claims and said he
disagrees. He said:
“Well, we always
responded well. But honestly for me, a defeat is a defeat and it’s never a
blessing. It always hurts and we have to analyze what happened to us and I
think as well we have not to go
overboard with what happened. It is a defeat and it hurts, but that shouldn’t
take our belief in our potential away.”
Let me know what you
think. Is the defeat really a blessing in disguise or is it just a purely bad
thing?
