Arsene Wenger has said
there is no need for any new signings and that the squad could have as well won
the West Ham game without any new signings,, but however does not dismiss the
possibility.
Anytime Arsenal loses a
game, especially when the transfer window is still open, the normal reaction
from fans and the media is that Wenger needs to make an addition and that the
club cannot move forward without the manager making world class signings. Wenger,
however rubbishes the ideology and claims the team at his disposal could have
easily beaten West Ham and that signing players is not always the answer.
When asked about
this issue in his press conference, he said “When you lose a game you always get that kind of demand. I believe
we have to be honest enough and ask, ‘Could we have won the game without any
addition?’ and I would say yes. Always the solution comes from outside, let us
look inside at ourselves and produce the performance that is expected from us.
I think that would be much more intelligent than always expecting a miracle
from outside.”
Wenger, however did not dismiss signing a new player, but
claims it is not “supermarket stuff”. When he was asked if he was probably
going to be making any new signings before the transfer window closed, he said
“Look, it is exactly the same situation as before the West Ham game. Do we find
somebody anywhere who strengthens our squad, we will do it. It is not easy, it
is not supermarket stuff where you go in and say, ‘I would like this. Please
can you give it to me?’ The availability is not easy”
