Wilshere Captaincy Not Contract Bribe

Jack Wilshere has captained the Arsenal team many times this season and many have suggested it is a move to get the English man to extend his contract at the Emirates which expires at the end of the 2017/2018 season. Another set of people argue that it could be because the current captain Per Mertesacker has indicated he is tired of the game andlooking forward to retirement after the end of the season and the Arsenal manager is looking for who will step up to take his place.

The Arsenal manager has however indicated his major reason for making him captain time to time and it has nothing to do with the contract situation but rather the fact that the player is someone who has grown through the ranks at Arsenal and has become experienced enough to handle the responsibilities.

In an interview with beIN SPORTS, the Arsenal manager said “He was born at the club basically. He has a long history with the club, strong link with the club. Jack Wilshere on the pitch is a big quality. Apart from his technical top qualities he has personality and is in the right place on the pitch, and now with the maturity to organise around him. That's why I played him central.”
