Liverpool Backed to Sign Thomas Lemar Ahead of Arsenal

Both Arsenal and Liverpool tried to land Thomas Lemar last summer, but Arsenal were unable to agree a fee with the French giants who have said the player will "cost a lot". Arsenal tried to sign him as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez whose contract was to expire in a year and was unwilling to sign a new contract.

Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev has indicated that he would rather sell the player to Liverpool rather than Arsenal in an interview with Telefoot. When he was asked about the players future, he said "Good luck to those who want him". Later on in the interview, the vice-president was pressed to give a price for the player and he responded that the player would "cost a lot".

Later on, he was asked if he would prefer to sell the player to Arsenal or Liverpool and the vice-president responded "Liverpool".

Lemar on the other hand has indicated that he is unhappy that a move to Arsenal or Liverpool didn't materialize last summer and is determined to keep up his performance levels so that he would be approached again. The player said "I’m not going to hide it, I was a little disappointed. I try not to think about it,’ he said last month. I’ve kept working so that these clubs come back during the next transfer window"
